GREAT GAGA COVER

Here is an artist named Lissie. She’s been performing and writing music for years around LA. I’ve seen her a few times at tiny bars in the city and at the Troubadour because she’s friends with my girlfriend. Her voice is outrageously awesome. Here is her cover of Lady GaGa’s “Bad Romance”…

THE DAY MY MIND WAS BLOWN

A friend of mine at lunch said he had an, “awesome surprise” for me. I got excited. When I found out what it was I got really excited. When I ended up in a sound studio about to listen to the original Fleetwood Mac master recording of “Rhiannon”, I knew someone was going to have the unenviable job of mopping my brains off the floor because my mind was about to be blown. I’m a huge Mac fan. The arrangements, the vocal harmonies, the guitar parts, the legendary rhythm section of Mick and John; I love it all. So, being able to isolate bass tracks, drum tracks, guitar parts and vocals was an amazing experience. When we isolated Mick’s drums you could hear Lindsey guiding the band by yelling, “Chorus…4,3,2,1.” and things like, “Now a-minor!”. Wild. I learned that no matter how hard most bands nowadays try, it’s very difficult to capture that classic “sound”. You listen to this track today and can still feel the vibe that was in the studio. Oh, and later on I got a chance to play Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drum kit too. Awesome.
